TESTING

Functional Testing

Functional testing can provide more information to help pinpoint the underlying cause of your health concern. There are a number of testing options available and if testing is appropriate for you this will be discussed at your consultation. All tests incur an additional fee over and above the cost of your consultation.

Common tests used include:

Pathology Tests

As part of your initial consultation If you have recent blood test results these can be interpreted from a functional perspective, to ensure levels are within the optimal ranges for wellbeing. If blood tests are recommended as part of your wellness plan, Wendy can refer you for these directly to Pathlab. Fees for these blood tests are payable by the client to Pathlab.

Microbiome and Gut function Stool Testing

The GI360 test is a stool test to evaluate the health of your gut and it can give an indication if there are imbalances or inflammation present that may be contributing to your health concern. It measures the balance of your microbiome (gut bacteria), including yeast overgrowth, and can test for the presence of parasites. It measures the effectiveness of digestion and absorption of food and for any inflammation present in the gut.

It is useful for clients who have gastrointestinal symptoms such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), constipation or diarrhoea, food intolerances, or symptoms of inflammation including joint pain and skin issues.

SIBO Breath Test

Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) is a condition of the small intestine where an overgrowth of bacteria can cause symptoms such as bloating and gas, IBS, constipation or diarrhoea and can interfere with the digestion and absorption of nutrients. A breath test is available to test for SIBO, which can be done at home and then the sample analysed in the lab to determine if SIBO is present.

Food Intolerance and Allergy Testing

The Precision Point Dietary Antigen blood test is a comprehensive test to assess food intolerances and allergies. This test includes immunoglobulins IgG, IgE and IgG4 and Complement reactions. Complement reactions can worsen the food reaction and contribute to inflammation in the body.

Food intolerances can be difficult to determine as a reaction to a food can be delayed for up to 48 hours, and the symptoms of food intolerance not only include digestive symptoms such as bloating, diarrhoea or constipation but also more general symptoms including fatigue, skin issues, aches and pains and anxiety or depression. Testing for food intolerance or allergy can help to pinpoint which foods are reactive and a wellness plan can be tailored to support this.

In addition to the blood test for food intolerances and allergies, we can also offer an Allergenics hair sample test, which is less intrusive method of testing for food and environmental sensitivities, especially good for children or those who don’t wish to have a blood test done.

DUTCH Hormone Testing

DUTCH (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones) testing provides a comprehensive profile of stress hormones (cortisol) and sex hormones (oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone) and their metabolites. The samples for this test (urine and saliva) are easily collected at home and sent for testing.

This test is useful for clients with symptoms such as pre-menstrual syndrome, peri-menopausal symptoms, irregular cycles, poor sleep and stress.

If you are interested in having some functional testing done, please book an appointment to discuss what options would be most suitable for you.
