What is Iridology?

Iridology is the study of the colour and structure of the iris, which can provide information around the strength of the physical body and areas of potential weakness. It has been used for centuries, as early as the 1800’s, and by doctors, scientists and natural health practitioners across the world.

I use iridology in clinic alongside comprehensive history gathering and other naturopathic assessments. I am always amazed by the correlation between a client’s health history and what is seen in the iris. It is a great tool to highlight overall nurture points for a client, which helps to inform my wellness recommendations.

For example, those with a blue iris (like the photo above) may have a susceptibility to allergic conditions such as asthma and eczema, or suffer from respiratory illnesses like bronchitis and sinusitis. The fibre structure in the photo above also shows wavy fibres which can indicate that they can be highly sensitive and prone to anxiety.

The areas of weakness that show up in the iris can also be inherited – from parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents. These areas of weakness do not always play out for an individual, it can be dependent on how they choose to live their lives. Prevention is key to health and wellbeing, and iridology is a great tool for this.
